The Higher Power of Lucky

I was a little confused when I read this book. I think I will read it again some day. This story is of a girl, Lucky, who really does live in the middle of nowhere. Lucky worries that she is not really wanted. This leads to some adventure and discovery. I think I liked it, but I'm not sure. It was too confusing. Do adults like it?

  1. Laura,

I remember loving this one but it is different. I was really rooting for Lucky. I think we all don't want to believe that children or anyone live in certain situations. There is another book like this that I read recently that I will have to look up again and send you the title.

  3. I will add Waiting for Normal to my "to read list". It really is hard to think about people living in horrible situations, but lots of people do :(

  4. I read this one a few years back (sadly before I started my blog, so I don't have a review). I liked it. Perhaps adults who read kids or young adult books would enjoy it because it takes the character through a difficult patch of living, something adults can surely relate to.

  6. I was very disappointed in this book. I am a mom (therefore an adult) and to answer your question Laura...I'm right with you. I liked it ok, but it definitely wasn't Newbery material, in my opinion.

  7. I'm an adult who reads a lot of children and young adult books and I really disliked this one. It just didn't ring true to me and quite frankly, I thought it was a bit boring.

Just as a comparison, a few young adult/kids books I've enjoyed: The Tale of Despereaux, Harry Potter series, Hunger Games series, The True Meaning of Smekday, The Giver, When You Reach Me, The Unicorn Chronicles series by Bruce Coville, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Alice in Wonderland.
