Because of Winn-Dixie
This is my favorite book about a boy or girl and their dog. This is a common theme among kids books. Sometimes it gets boring and uninteresting reading about so many of the same type of stories and I can sometimes predict what will happen next. This book is NOT like that. Opal finds a stray dog while shopping and names the dog Winn-Dixie after the shopping center where she finds him. One of the reasons this book is so is appealing is the amazing writing of Kate DiCamillo. She is one GREAT storyteller! Ms. DiCamillo can really make characters come to life, and in this story Opal connects with some very interesting people and learns something from each one of them.
