When I read this, my dad thought I was reading historic fiction. But it was realistic fiction when it was written. I liked that Garnet, the hero of the book shows her pig at the fair. I show pigs, too. That's me showing my pig on the left. Over all, it was a great book.

Laura, I am so glad you liked this book. I grew up in a similar area that this book took place in. We do an adult winter reading program and one of the topics is that they have to read a Newbery Winner. I often suggest this one. You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
