The American Library Association 2010 Annual Conference...

I'M GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!! A few months ago, I was researching who was in charge of the Newbery. I learned about ALA (The American Library Association), which is in charge of the Newbery. ALA is made up of librarians, authors, and other people who like books (my kind of people!). I also learned about their annual conference which has amazing workshops and presentations. During this conference the Newbery Caldecott Banquet, where the award winners are honored, is held. Learning all of this I instantly wanted desperately to go. Luckily for me, it takes place in the summer (school will be out) and in Washington DC (my grandparents live in Arlington and my parents are willing to consider timing our annual summer visit to match the conference). But, I am only 10 and don't have a job and the registration was lots of money.

Today, the most amazing, wonderful, terrific, exciting, fabulous, and magnificent thing happed. the Association for Library Service to Children, a Division of the American Library Association, offered to give me (and my mom who has to come with me because I am only 10) VIP registration. So, I GET TO GO!!!!!!!! I am so happy that I can't stop smiling!!!

  11. Congratulations Laura,

I'm hoping to secure a scholarship to attend. It would be so delightful to meet you in person. Your dedication to reading quality children's literature inspires me and the students in our elementary library.
