Ninth Ward

Hurricane Katrina is one of the first "historical events" that happened in my lifetime that I have lots of clear memories of.  Of course, my memories are of images from the news coverage and stories my father told after he went to Mississippi to help with the clean up.  Reading about the days surrounding and including the hurricane from an unique view of the storm told by Lanasha was very powerful.  It think that this book has a good chance of being next years Newbery!


I was lucky enough to get an ARC (advanced readers copy) at ALA but the book comes out August 16th.  You can preorder now and be the first on your block to discover a great book!
