This weekend, I'm joining thousands of librarians, authors, publishers, and general book-lovers in Chicago for the American Library Association's annual conference. I went once before, in 2010 when it was in Washington, D.C., so I know just how amazing it will be. This time I'm not going to the whole conference, but because Chicago was so close I talked my mom into getting a day pass to the STACKS. Then, my wonderful fairy book-mother, Kathi Appelt, talked her publisher into inviting me to the Newbery Gala. More fairy book-magic! Thank you, thank you, thank you! ALA is pure magic for a giant book lover like me. I get to meet other lovers of books, meet amazing authors and celebrate outstanding writing. Really, a perfect combination. I once thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance; now that I am heading into my second time, I see it more as an amazing part of the world of books, a world I plan to spend my whole life connected to. If you're attending, I would love to meet you (or say hi, if I have already). I'm no longer the ten-year-old girl on the "cool red scooter" from three years ago; I'm the thirteen-year-old girl with the same GIANT smile on the pretty purple power chair. In case you can't tell, I'm REALLY excited!!!!!
Go Laura! Hope hope hope that I see you at the Newb banquet (I'm just going for the speeches, so you'll have a better seat than me)!

I was just going to say look for Sam....and his comment is the one before mine! I got to attend the speeches in New Orleans a few years back and it was such a wonderful experience. Enjoy your time!
