Missing ALA
This is the time of the year when I am most envious of you lucky ducks who are members of the American Library Association. You are mostly all at ALA this week. Because I got to go last year I know how exciting and fun it can be. I had the best or second best week of my life last year at ALA (I can't decide if it beat my 6th birthday when I spent at week at Disney World and had lunch with Cinderella on my birthday. They were both amazing.). There is the one thing that is better about being at home: I slept until 11:00 this morning, and I'm not exaggerating at all. The reason I am thinking about this right now is that I did my 10 page 4-H scrapbook this afternoon alone and it was on my amazing experience at ALA last year. My favorite page title is Ace of Libraries (about the cake Charm City Cakes made last year) and my favorite picture is one of just me at the Newbery/Caldecott Gala. So my request to all of you lucky ducks that are at ALA right now is to post a comment about your favorite part and the things you are doing / did so that I can hear about ALA Annual 2011 while I remember ALA Annual 2010.

We are missing your visit to ALA too. It was so much fun to share last years adventure with you and Mom. Can't wait to see the scrapbook of all of those memories. Grandma
ReplyDeleteGrandma,
ReplyDeleteYou can see it when you come, it is done now. When are you coming next?
August 2-5. Get your sewing projects ready
ReplyDeleteHey Laura, I'm sorry you couldn't be there this year, too! The highlight for me was meeting and spending time with all the Newbery authors! I know you love Rita WIlliams-Garcia, and I got to sit by her at a dinner on Friday night. You'll be back at ALA soon, I know it!

Grandma,
ReplyDeleteI will! I wanted to try out using the serger for my headbands, do you think it will work? I can't yet, Mr. Sink is still working on the serger. I will see you soon if your in VA next week. Will you be?
Sam B.,
I miss it, but I have a wonderful summer trip planned, to the White House and then to Walnut Grove.
We are here and can't wait for your visit. We love your "interrupt my blog" piece. Every little bit helps. We will talk about using the server on the headbands next week.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteWe met last year at the banquet. I served on the 2010 Newbery Committee with Maria. I just want to let you know that I have shared your blog with 5th grade classrooms during my Newbery talks. I also just gave your URL to a mom who is giving her daughter the charge of reading all the Newberys. You are a celebrity in my book! We missed you at ALA. My favorite part was hearing the Newbery and Caldecott speeches. Clare Vanderpool was hysterically funny, and Erin Stead held back tears the whole time. I think everyone needed a tissue.
Laura, I forgot to tell you... not only did Rita Williams-Garcia talk about how awesome you are (she brought it up!!!) but she also mentioned you in her Coretta Scott King speech!!! -Sam B. from Cincinnati
